In Norse mythology, Thor is known as the God of thunder, lightning, storms, strength, protection, oak trees, healing and fertility. Thor's Hammer, with which he makes thunder and protects mankind, is called Mj0lnir. This depiction calls on Thor to venerate, protect and hold sacred the home of those who wear it. The runes are from the Elder Futhark and read "Mighty Thor Hallow and Hold this Holy Stead."
